Nintendo’s Amiibo Toys Will Sell for $13 Each; $300 Mario Kart 8 Wii U Bundle Announced

As the ever-important holiday season approaches, Nintendo today announced pricing details for its Skylanders-style toy line, amiibo, and revealed a range of new Wii U and 2DS hardware bundles.

Amiibo toys will sell for $13 each, and the first dozen were revealed today. They are Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer. More are coming in the future, Nintendo said.

The upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U, due to launch this holiday, will be the first game to support amiibo toys. Others will include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi's Wooly World. Further details about specific amiibo functionality for those games will be announced shortly, Nintendo said.

Nintendo's pricing for amiibo is roughly in line with Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures, which sell for around $8-$15 for a single toy, and even more for combo packs.

Nintendo also today announced a pair of new Wii U hardware bundles, the first of which is called the Super Mario 3D World Deluxe Set. Launching in mid-September, this bundle will include a console, and copies of Super Mario 3D World and Nintendo Land for $300. Also launching in mid-September is a Mario Kart 8 bundle that is exclusive to Wal-Mart. It includes a console and a copies of Mario Kart 8 and Nintendo Land for $300.

On the portable side, Nintendo announced three new Nintendo 2DS bundles. Launching in early October are electric blue, crimson red, and sea green 2DS systems that come with a download code for Mario Kart 7. These bundles will sell for $130.
