Sons of Anarchy Game Coming to Tablets, Not Console

The Sons of Anarchy video game currently in development will be released for tablet devices, not consoles, says Kurt Sutter, creator of the FX biker drama. This is a departure from a previous trajectory for the game. In May 2012, Sutter said he scrapped plans for a browser-based Sons of Anarchy game in favor of a "real" title for consoles. At the time, he said making the game for consoles would "take a while, but it's the right way to go." This statement, however, was made before issues began to emerge with the game.

On Friday during his TwinGalaxies YouTube show, "Kurt Sutter's Intercourse," Sutter said the currently untitled Sons of Anarchy game will be a "very high-end tablet game." He says he's seen a demo of the game in action and it is shaping up to be "really f***ing awesome." This is the second time Sutter has described the upcoming game as "f***ing awesome."

The Sons of Anarchy game should be released in October or sometime this fall. He adds that he might reveal more information about the game, like its working title and maybe some screenshots, during this Friday's episode of Kurt Sutter's Intercourse.

As for why he couldn't share more details about the game right away, Sutter says, "I don't have a lot of specifics because we have pieces of the game that have to sort of fall together in terms of the launch of it."

Presumably, the Sons of Anarchy game will tie into the show's story in some way. It's also unclear which studio is handling development on the game, which must be wrapping up, as fall 2014 is quickly closing in.

Regarding his own personal interests in video games, Sutter says, "I'm a big gamer. I'm sort of old-school, mostly PC."

Sutter's attempts to make a Sons of Anarchy game have been well-documented. The game was thought to be "dead" in November 2012, but Sutter revealed in February that the game was back on, and would be a first-person action adventure title. He also teased at the time that this game will represent the "evolution of gaming."

He previously reached out to Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption studio Rockstar Games to see if the company was interested in making the Sons of Anarchy game. It's unclear if any discussion between Sutter and Rockstar ever happened.

The seventh and final season of Sons of Anarchy debuts on September 9 at 10 p.m. on FX. The show focuses on a close-knit group of bikers with violent tendencies. It is set in the fictional town of Charming, California, and stars Charlie Hunnam (Green Street Hooligans, Pacific Rim) as the show's protagonist Jackson "Jax" Teller.
