Mortal Kombat creator teases possible announcement by counting down
Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon has begun counting down to something--possibly a new game announcement--on Twitter in as indirect a manner as possible.
It began with a tweet on Sunday (noticed by IGN), when Boon simply wrote, "Square root of 841." A day later, he wrote, "Question: How many days in (non-leap-year) February?" The answers to those questions are 29 and 28, respectively, establishing a pattern that continued today, when he posted a link to a clip from The Simpsons that involves the number 27.
27 days from today is June 2, just a week prior to the start of E3. It's possible that Boon is teasing a new project from NetherRealm Studios, developer of the most recent Mortal Kombat game and Injustice: Gods Among Us, that will be revealed ahead of E3.
A sequel to Injustice was reportedly mentioned during a DC Comics panel at WonderCon panel last month. The game has yet to be officially announced, so we don't yet know if the game is actually in the works or, if it is, whether NetherRealm is the one developing it.
Likewise, there is also at least one indication that a new Mortal Kombat is coming: While promoting Metal Gear Solid V, Kiefer Sutherland indicated he had done work on a Mortal Kombat game. As his voice hasn't been used in any previous game in the series, that has been taken to mean that a follow-up to the 2011 reboot is in development.
With Boon providing no indication as to what exactly he's counting down to, what would you most like to see NetherRealm work on next? Let us know in the comments below.
