Xbox One sells 115,000 units in the US during April
Microsoft announced today that the Xbox One sold 115,000 units during April 2014 in the United States. That's 76 percent better than the Xbox 360 when compared to its first six months on the market.
Separately, the NPD Group released its report today for April 2014, showing that the PlayStation 4 outsold the Xbox One during the month. Sony has not disclosed specific monthly sales figures for its platform, though we know it must be north of 115,000. [Here's our full write-up for NPD April 2014 data]
In addition to 115,000 Xbox One units sold during April 2014, Microsoft shifted 71,000 Xbox 360s. That's more than the PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii, Microsoft said. In terms of software, Microsoft sold 447,000 Xbox One games and 2.2 million Xbox 360 games in April. According to Microsoft, that makes up 53 percent of total software market share.
In addition, Microsoft says the average Xbox One owner has purchased three games to date.
Looking ahead, Microsoft will launch the $399 Kinect-free Xbox One unit starting June 9. That's the same day of Microsoft's E3 2014 press conference, where the company is expected to announce new games for later this year and beyond.
