Buying PC games from GameStop just got easier

GameStop has re-launched its PC digital distribution service as part of a wider move that should make buying downloadable PC games from the company an easier experience. Effective immediately, when you buy a digital PC game from GameStop, you'll receive a code to redeem your game through platforms like Steam, Origin, or Uplay. Previously, you needed to download and install GameStop's own client to do so.

"Until now, our digital download process had multiple steps. After receiving customer feedback over the past year, we've made improvements to simplify our digital PC game purchase and download process," GameStop director of merchandising Alan Walters said in a statement.

As part of the change, GameStop's ImpulseDrive.com website now redirects visitors to the GameStop PC games hub. In addition, GameStop's dedicated PC Downloads App will become a library manager only.

GameStop's PC download store currently has more than 1,200 titles available, and running through June 2, the retailer is holding a special promotion where some games are as much as 85 percent off. Some of the deals include the Mass Effect Trilogy for $9.89, the BioShock Triple Pack for $15, and a Sleeping Dogs + Hitman: Absolution combo pack also for $15.

In other GameStop news, the company has announced that its annual gaming tradeshow, GameStop EXPO, will be held this year September 9-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Companies like Activision, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Sony, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. will be in attendance. There will also be panels and celebrity signing opportunities, GameStop says.

More than 5,000 people attended last year's show, and GameStop president Tony Bartel said the company aims to make this year's event "even bigger and better."

Tickets are on sale now, starting at $40. A limited number of VIP passes are available for $110, and include access to VIP events on September 9, early access to the show floor, access to a VIP lounge, and a swag bag. A special VIP Plus ticket ($175) is also being offered this year that includes all the benefits from the standard VIP ticket, as well as the ability to jump the line at all booths.

Finally, there's a special $20 student ticket, available for purchase on-site only starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10. All GameStop EXPO attendees must be 17 years of age or older or accompanied by an adult.
