Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Multiplayer Is a “Big Step Forward,” Dev Says

The Call of Duty franchise is often criticized for not offering enough in the way of meaningful innovation from year to year in the multiplayer department. But it sounds like this year's game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, might be different. Speaking with Metro, Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey teased that the game's multiplayer mode is a "big step forward" for the series.

He wouldn't go into detail, but teased that some of the gear--like perhaps the exosuit and futuristic gadgetry we've seen in the epic single-player demo--will be available in multiplayer.

"Our multiplayer has what I'm going to call the biggest set of new, as you call it, cool gear that you've seen in a long time. It's a big step forward," Condrey said. "From three years in development we've been able to innovate across the game. Everything you saw [in the game's E3 demo]… just imagine what that’s going to mean for multiplayer."

In Advanced Warfare's single-player mode, your character--Private Mitchell--wears an exosuit that gives him super-human characteristics like faster movement, the ability to jump to rooftops, and serious strength. If the exosuit comes to the game's multiplayer mode, then Advanced Warfare will truly shake things up in a major way.

Advanced Warfare is the first entry in the series developed on Activision's new three-year, three-studio schedule. Thanks to the extended development cycle, and the power of new consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Activision boasts that Advanced Warfare will feature "near-photorealistic" visuals. The publisher has not disclosed a resolution or frame rate for the game yet.

Due out November 4, the Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions of Advanced Warfare are in development at Sledgehammer Games, while High Moon Studios is working on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 iterations. To date, there has been no mention of a Wii U version.
