Check out some new footage of this fall’s Lord of the Rings game

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions today released a new trailer for this fall's Lord of the Rings game, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

The first in a series of videos detailing the game's features and story, today's trailer showcases how players can upgrade main character Talion's various abilities. Specifically, it touches on the weapons Talion uses and the Runes system for upgrading and improving them.

As explained in the video you see above, Runes are buffs that Talion can use to bolster the effectiveness of his weapons. They are dropped when enemy captains are sent to their death. You can even combine different Runes to improve Talion's weapons in unique ways.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor launches on October 7, a date that also sees the release of BioWare's Dragon Age: Inquisition, Driveclub, and Alien: Isolation. Earlier today, Warner Bros. announced various retailer-specific preorder bonuses for the game.

Monolith says Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is definitely not a "movie game," but entirely original. For more on the game, which is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
