PC Sim Tropico 5 Breaking Sales Records

PC simulation game Tropico 5 is off to a hot start. Publisher Kalypso Media announced today that the game is now the "most successful launch in the history of the series." The company says the game has achieved "international chart success," with worldwide sales of over six figures, meaning 100,000 or more.

"We are very pleased that the latest title in the Tropico series has been enthusiastically received worldwide by both the fans and the press," Kalypso managing director Simon Hellwig said in a statement. "This once again shows that Tropico is one of the world's best known and most popular brands in the strategy arena."

Last month, Kalypso announced that preorders for Tropico 5 were four times better than predecessor Tropico 4. A digital version of Tropico 5 launched on May 23 for PC. The retail boxed version will be available on June 17. Xbox 360 and Mac versions are launching this summer, while a PlayStation 4 version is expected to arrive this fall. There's no word on an Xbox One version of Tropico 5.

Tropico 5, developed by Haemimont Games, takes players on a journey from the 19th century to the 21st. You'll play through colonial times, World War 1 and World War 2, the Great Depression, the Cold War, and up to modern times and beyond. The game also introduces a series-first multiplayer mode, allowing up to four players to build their own cities, and then decide if they want to share resources and supplies or go to war with one another.
