What if Canada won World War II?
Next week's Wolfenstein: The New Order depicts a world where Nazis won World War II and rule the world with an iron fist. But what if another country, like Canada, won World War II? How would the world be different? Bethesda and fake news site The Onion have teamed up for a funny promotional video that answers that very question.
The fake version of Wolfenstein: The New Order shown off in the video lets you start a game and choose which country you think should have won World War II. If you choose Canada, you're not led to do anything violent, but instead tasked with buying delicious poutine. The Canadian robots that walk the streets are also non-combative, saying things like "Good day to all," "Sorry," and "Pardon me" as they pass by.
In the Peruvian version of Wolfenstein: The New Order, everyone is required to wear socks made from soft alpaca wool. Meanwhile, the Finnish version of the game sees players enjoying time in a sauna instead of going out into the world. The German version of Wolfenstein: The New Order depicted in the video offers a world when World War II never even happened and the country's people "bear no ancestral guilt whatsoever." Finally, the American version offers a world where people eat hot dogs and apple pie for every meal.
The real Wolfenstein: The New Order launches May 20 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. The German version of the game has no swastikas and the Nazis are called the Regime. This is not the first time Bethesda and The Onion have teamed up, as the two companies also partnered for a funny The Evil Within video that pokes fun at the game's use of barbed wire.
