The International 2014’s American qualifiers expanded to 11 teams; Revenge eSports are back in the running
Earlier this week we reported that the Peruvian team Revenge eSports had been forced to withdraw from this year's International American regional qualifiers due to attempting to alter their team's roster after receiving an invite to the qualifiers.
Revenge eSports had tried to submit a roster which included Iwo 'Iwo' Bejar Kalinowski as a stand-in for Benjamin 'Benjaz' Lanao Barrios, even though Iwo was already in the qualifiers since he is the captain of Union Gaming.
Their withdrawal from the American qualifiers saw the Argentinian base team Isurus Gaming being brought on to replace Revenge eSports.
As a further consequence, the team also lost their star player Freddy 'SmAsH' Sina along with Alex 'Masoku' Dávila, which left things looking pretty grim for the future of the team.
Fast forward to today and after much pleading Revenge have just received confirmation from Valve that they have been given the opportunity to rejoin the qualifiers with their originally intended line-up. This would eventually result in an expension of the total amount of teams to eleven.
We would love for your team to be able to participate and would be willing to extend the qualifiers to 11 teams to make it work. However, we can only do this if you keep your previous roster without Iwo. Does this work for you guys?
Valve's Email to Revenge eSports
Freddy 'SmAsH' Sina and Alex 'Masoku' Dávila are already confirmed as back on board to play with the team again. However, Benjamin 'Benjaz' Lanao Barrios, the player who the team originally wanted to remove, has yet to confirm. Without Benjaz's confirmation the team will be unable to participate in the qualifiers and the total team count will remain at ten.
onGamers reached out to David 'Daelin' Campoblanco, the Dota 2 manager for Revenge eSports, who excitedly told us:
Holy shit! It's just something that only happens in the movies. We are shocked that Valve has given our team an honor spot and haven't replaced any one despite the extra scheduling required. The team is under a lot of pressure to perform now but they will accept it and give their 200%.
