ESL One Frankfurt gets first televised esports ad on German television
ESL One Frankfurt that is due to take place at the Commerzbank-Arena World Cup Stadium will soon be hitting mainstream television in Germany with a new video ad campaign. The trailer seen above is the English version voiced by JoinDOTA's Toby 'TobiWan' Dawson, the primary caster for ESL One Frankfurt.
Not only is the event the first of it's kind to use a large scale stadium in Germany it will also become the first esports related event to be advertised on mainstream television in Germany.
"We're really excited to be getting ESL One out to the masses. This is the first time an esports event has had it's ticket sales advertised on German national TV and I think it really speaks volumes about the amount of growth esports has seen in the last 5 years."
James Lampkin, product manager for ESL One Dota
The campaign is another example of esports slowly reaching it way on to television with Sweden's TV6 recently broadcasting all of season one of the DreamLeague across a number of their channels in similar fashion to the coverage they provided for last year's International.
ESL One Frankfurt will be taking place next month on the 28th and 29th of June and boasts an impressive capacity of over 35,000 with the event being poised to be the largest esports spectacle Dota 2 has ever seen. In comparison this year's International event ran by Valve that will be moving to Seattle's Key Arena has sold a total of 10,000 tickets which leaves plenty of room for Frankfurt to become an even larger event.
"For us, this event is about creating a European version of The International, with the best teams in the world including NaVi, Alliance and now iG attending. We want to bring the community experience of TI to European fans, so We'll have activities like our Cosplay contest, meet and greet with community figures and players, and the biggest live audience Dota 2 will have seen to date.
We know we will have the most hardcore Dota fans from around Europe attending, but our TV ad campaign is part of a massive marketing project to bring in casual gaming fans from all across Western Europe."
Frankfurt is also one of the two third party tournaments who have been able to release a Compendium into the Dota 2 store along with DreamHack's DreamLeague which has helped push the prize pool up towards the $200,000 mark and promises a number of different stretch goals such as a custom HUD skin, loading screen, cosmetic item set and more.
