Team Coast acquires Monomaniac Esports’ Dota 2 roster

With the prize pool of Valve’s fourth annual The International event exceeding $6,000,000, few organisations within eSports want to miss out a chance to be a part of the absolutely massive event which will take place in the Key Arena, come mid-July this year. This goes for organisations and brands currently working within the LCS as well. CLG reportedly made an offer to acquire North American Rejects, the winners of the TI4 North American qualifier, and now Team Coast, who were featured in three consecutive seasons of the NA LCS, have picked the roster formerly known as Monomaniac Esports, the surprise finalists of the recent FragBite Masters tournament.

Team Coast will participate in the TI4 EU qualifiers, where they will be playing against teams such as Power Rangers and mousesports.

onGamers reached out to Coast’s offlaner, Sebastian 'solen' Kjær, about the acquisition and he was kind enough to answer a few questions about the news:

Congrats on being picked up by a bigger team. How does it feel to have come so far in such a short period of time?

It feels great! None of us would have expected to be where we are now. If you had asked us three months ago, when we created this team, our goal was TI5 and now we're here where TI4 is actually an opportunity we have been given.

Were there a lot of offers extended towards you, and if so what made you settle with Coast?

There were some, but nothing that we really followed up on since we were really happy with what we had with MMC. But last Sunday Team Coast contacted us and came with a straightforward offer, which we were really excited about, and since MMC actually never contracted us, we discussed for a while and felt that we would have a better chance to grow with Team Coast in a larger timespan.

The deal extends beyond TI4 then?

Yes, that was one of our criterias for playing under a new organisation. We want to play with an organisation that has the same goal as us, and making sure we're on the same page is very important.
