Dota 2 Compendium raises The International’s prize pool by $1,000,000 in 12 hours
The Dota 2 community continues to break records after raising a whopping $1,000,000 in additional prize pool money in just under 12 hours. The new total total prize pool now sits at a sweet $2,600,000 after adding on the base prize of $1.6 million. In comparison, last year's Compendium raised a total of $1,274,380 over a three month period. The 2014 Compendium is on track to beat that figure easily within the first 24 hours.
As well as contributing 25% ($2.50) of the actual Compendium sale this year, Valve have also introduced a point system which allows for players to level up their Compendium by performing a range of different tasks in game and in the Compendium. Players now have the option to purchase point packs, which also contribute 25% of their cost directly to the prize pool.
This extra level of support has helped to create a secondary source of revenue after the initial Compendium purchase and is most likely a huge factor in the speed of this year's prize pool growth.

The release of the Compendium also broke another record, the peak concurrent player count for Dota 2, which now currently stands at 786,113 players. An all time new record for Dota 2.
