Newbee stings the competition, and DK fall from grace in the first day of the MarsTV Dota 2 League
LGD showed why they deserved a spot at The International's main event this year, as they opened up the initial day of the MarsTV Dota 2 League with two victories over the invited invictus Gaming and Team DK. Many were uncertain as to whether or not the team would put up enough of a fight in the qualifiers to even get to the grand finals, but ever since the start of them LGD’s main roster looks to be a top contender once again.
The biggest story of the event’s first day was, however, the seeming reincarnation of team Newbee, the team that had become the butt of all jokes revolving China’s infamous roster-shuffles as the squad contains several of the most highly rated players in the nation, and were still unable to perform up to a standard they had been used to in their older teams. Today, Newbee ended up becoming the only undefeated team in the tournament’s group stage.
At the same time, the recent woes for Team DK continue, as the Asian dream team barely made it into the playoff stage of the tournament, earning their way into the the semi-finals through beating the ever-struggling iG in a 3-way-tiebreaker.
All this leads up to the semi-finals which will take place tomorrow, where DK will face Newbee, and LGD will be facing Vici Gaming.
