StarLadder to host next CS:GO Major in Berlin
Tournament organiser StarLadder has confirmed that it will host the second Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major event of 2019.
The fifteenth Major in history, StarLadder has partnered with ImbaTV to put on the tournament at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.
Taking place over September 5-8th, $1,000,000 (£773,255) will be up for grabs. The Minor events that determine the Challenger teams that will make it to the Major will be hosted in July. Tickets for the main event will be made available for purchase in April.
Alexander Chegrinez, Head of Business Development at StarLadder shared his thoughts in a statement: “Our company was founded out of an immense passion for Counter-Strike. Our very first tournaments many years ago started with CS. This game was and remains as a critical part of who we are, we grew up with it, and couldn’t be more excited.
“It is a great honor for us to host the 15th anniversary Major in such a stunning venue, and for such an incredible community! We will do our best to impress the fans and deliver a truly memorable Major!”
The first Major event of the year is currently ongoing. IEM Katowice has concluded its New Challengers stage, with eight teams advancing to take on the New Legends starting February 20th.
Esports Insider says: It’s a tad surprising to see the Major being hosted in the country where ESL is based considering StarLadder is located in Ukraine and that’s where a lot of its events take place. Nonetheless, StarLadder and ImbaTV have proven countless times that they’re capable of putting on a good event and we can’t wait to tune in.
