ReKTGlobal welcomes investment from Tainy and Lex Borrero
ReKTGlobal, the parent company of North American organisation Rogue, has received investment from Latin music figures Marco “Tainy” Masís and Lex Borrero.
The former is a producer – who is behind songs from popular artists such as Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin – and the latter is EVP at management and publishing company Roc Nation.
As co-owners of ReKTGlobal and Rogue, Tainy and Borrero will help with the planned growth of the brands in Latin America. They will “create and deliver streaming content” with Rogue’s players and help to promote the ‘Junior Rogue’ program aimed at amateur players.
Amish Shah, Founder of ReKTGlobal and Co-owner of Rogue discussed the investment in a release: “We’re excited to add Tainy, the legendary Latin music producer, as well as his manager and award-winning executive, Lex Borrero, as investors in the ReKTGlobal family. with Tainy and Lex’s support, we look forward to continuous growth and elevation of Rogue Nation’s global footprint in Latin America and beyond.”
ReKTGlobal raised $10.8 million (£8,402,400) in a Series A funding round at the top of the year, led by entrepreneur and musician Nick Gross. The money raised was set to be used to help cover the cost of acquiring a franchise in Riot Games’ LEC.
Borrero added: “I’ve been watching what ReKTGlobal has been doing in the space since 2017, and I love their vision of merging music and gaming. When the opportunity came up, it was a no brainer.”
ReKTGlobal is no stranger to having stars from the music industry in its roster of co-owners. In May last year, members of the band Imagine Dragons invested in the company and music producer Steve Aoki co-owned Rogue before it was even acquired by ReKTGlobal.
Esports Insider says: It’s very clear that ReKTGlobal sees a future in the intersection of esports and music. Bringing Tainy and Borrero in as co-owners could be a good move when it comes to growing in Latin America as they have great audiences and are in positions of power.
